Worcester Warriors has announced that their currently captain Pat Sanderson has agreed a new two-year contract extension, which will see him remain at Sixways until 2012.
The back row joined Worcester Warriors for the start of the 2004/05 season. The 31-year-old started every game in his first year with the club and was later nominated for the Zurich Player of the Season and the PRA Players' Player of the Year.
Sanderson has now played 115 games for the club and won two times the European Challenge Cup in 2001 and 2004 with the Harlequins.
Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock is delighted that his captain had chosen to commit to the club a year early, with his current deal set to run until the end of the 2009/10 campaign.
"It is fantastic news that Pat Sanderson has decided to extend his term at Warriors. Pat has always been the consummate professional, an outstanding performer, great player and top leader during his time at the club.
His motivational skills and leadership qualities have been incredibly impressive, hence my decision to continue to ask Pat to captain the Warriors but also extend his term as a player." said Ruddoch.
The 2008 European Challenge Cup finalists will start their European Challenge Cup campaign at home by hosting Montpellier on Thursday, 8 October at 7.45pm.
As part of the build-up to next month's Cardiff 2014 Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup finals weekend, ERC has joined forces with the WRU, Cardiff Blues and adidas to develop an annual grassroots community rugby programme targeting young players.
The Ulster Rugby full back, Jared Payne (No 15), has been suspended for two (2) weeks following an independent Disciplinary Hearing in Dublin arising from the Heineken Cup quarter-final match against Saracens at Ravenhill Stadium on Saturday, 5 April.
