Half of the teams that competed in last season's European Challenge Cup will contest the trophy again in the 2006/07 season. The ten new teams in the tournament nest season include French side Albi who have qualified for the European Challenge Cup for the first time. Two former Heineken Cup champions Bath Rugby and Brive are also competing in the 2006/07 European Challenge Cup.
