"They did not produce the enthusiasm I expected when you come off the bench," said the former France national coach.
"They simply just did not give it their all out on the pitch. I know there is this semi-final against Saracens coming up but that is what disappointed me.
"There will be 15 names on the sheet and some players won't be there."
Toulon are only in their second season in the top flight of European club rugby and, just like Saracens, they are targeting a debut tournament final appearance.
"We are going to go there with much enthusiasm, much envy - hey, it's a Heineken Cup semi-final," he added. "Few of our players have been involved in one of those, even if many have played in other high level competitions.
"In the build-up of the game, in the attitude, we can see everybody wants to play on Sunday. It's normal and Toulon now have to show that it is a massive club."
