"The result is disappointing," he said.
"Clermont are a difficult side, they haven't lost here since 2009 and we knew it was going to be difficult. In saying that, I think we left a few chances out there.
"It was pretty physical. We knew it was going to be physical and it was a difficult game. It is a very good place to come and play. The fans were excellent, the atmosphere was unbelievable but we probably didn't take some of the opportunities that we had.
"We were happy with how we started. Right up until half-time I didn't really mind, one score down here and we had taken the wind out of their sails a little bit.
"The overriding feeling is one of disappointment. We wanted to do better but it wasn't to be.
"They have an impressive team across the board.
"We played with a lot of heart and a lot passion and we need to match that next week and be a little bit more clinical as well."
Leicester have the immediate opportunity to revenge the defeat when they welcome Clermont Auvergne to Welford Road on Saturday in the return fixture.
