Ryan Jones has targeted an imminent return from injury as he aims to give himself enough game time ahead of the Heineken Cup.
The Welsh captain hasn't played since suffering a knee injury in his country's second-Test defeat to New Zealand in the summer and, as the No8 begins training, he's aiming to be fighting fit ahead of the Ospreys' European opener away to RC Toulon on Saturday, October 9.
"I am back running and need another week or so on my feet," Jones told the Western Mail.
"I am training and will be available for selection soon and I would like to have figured quite heavily by the end of September.
"I have to do that to give myself a chance to play European Cup rugby.
"I don't want to rush back and have a relapse because we are on the verge of what is potentially a 16-month season."
The Magners League champions bounced back from defeat on the opening league weekend away to Ulster to beat new-boys Benetton Treviso at the Liberty Stadium at the weekend.
The Welsh region travel to Ireland to face Munster on Saturday, in a dress rehearsal for when the sides meet in back-to-back fixtures in the Heineken Cup in December.
Pool 4 of the Heineken Cup also features London Irish, who last season's beaten quarter-finalists will face at home in Round 2 on Friday, October 15.
As part of the build-up to next month's Cardiff 2014 Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup finals weekend, ERC has joined forces with the WRU, Cardiff Blues and adidas to develop an annual grassroots community rugby programme targeting young players.
The Ulster Rugby full back, Jared Payne (No 15), has been suspended for two (2) weeks following an independent Disciplinary Hearing in Dublin arising from the Heineken Cup quarter-final match against Saracens at Ravenhill Stadium on Saturday, 5 April.
