ERC is challenged with taking into account each club's preference, venue restrictions at shared stadia, the potential for extra time to be required at games, as well as ensuring that broadcasters in each country can cover all eight matches to maximise the promotion of the tournaments and of the participant clubs, and in addition to allow fans who cannot not travel to watch the action.
London Wasps have advised ERC that their Adams Park home venue is only available on the Sunday of the quarter-final weekend due to the staging of a football match. With eight matches to be decided from Thursday through to Sunday, it was necessary to schedule three for the Saturday and three for the Sunday.
Sunday's schedule starts with the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final between Bath Rugby and Brive at 14.00, and is followed by the Heineken Cup clash of Toulon v Leinster at 17.30 (local) with 19.00 then the next available kick-off for the London Wasps v Gloucester Rugby fixture.
While ERC fully understands the frustrations of some fans who would prefer an earlier kick-off time, we hope that everyone who wishes to travel to the game will enjoy what is sure to be another exciting European occasion.
