Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter is hoping his side can end their domestic campaign with a bang to ensure a second helping of Heineken Cup rugby next season.
The Chiefs managed to take the scalp of the Scarlets on their first foray into the top tier of European rugby this season, and almost caused an upset in Dublin on their debt against reigning champions Leinster when they only went down 9-6.
But having had a taste of the Heineken Cup, Baxter wants his ambitious club to remain at the top table of the European game and has called for a climb up the Premiership table over the final five matches of the season.
Baxter's men are currently lying in eighth place on 41 points, one point behind Bath and five behind Gloucester and London Wasps. England have six places in the Heineken Cup, or seven if one of their teams wins either the Heineken Cup or Amlin Challenge Cup.
The big push will start at Sandy Park this weekend when two-time European winners Leicester Tigers, currently in third place, are the visitors.
"All the players, and everyone at the club, has enjoyed being in the Heineken Cup and it's still a possibility for us. We should be putting up a determined fight to climb that table and see what we can achieve," said Baxter.
"We talk a lot about the fact that we want to be seen as an ambitious team and ambitious players trying to get things. From where we are now in the season, the only thing that's there for us is to see how far up the table we can get.
"There are a lot of points left in the season, a lot left for us to fight for, and it would be fantastic to keep working hard, get some decent performances and force some results that gather the points that become very important towards the end of the season."
The Chiefs beat reigning English champions and Heineken Cup semi-finalists Harlequins in Twickenham in their last outing.
