Bayonne could be without No 8 Francois Carillo for their remaining Amlin Challenge Cup Pool fixtures after the 24-year-old forward suffered a suspected heart attack while warming up for a game last weekend.
The French side are due to face to host Newport Gwent Dragons at Stade Jean Dauger on 10 January in a must win game in Pool 3 before ending their campaign in Italy against Rugby Mogliano on 19 January. They need two big wins to stand any chance of toppling unbeaten Pool leaders London Wasps and reach the last eight.
Carillo was rushed to hospital on Saturday, 22 December, after collapsed while warming up ahead of his side's home Top 14 clash with Mont-de-Marsan. Agency reports of the incident say the player received cardiac massage from a heart specialist team before he was taken to hospital and placed on a respirator.
A hospital statement this week stated: "No anomalies were detected from all the tests carried out since Saturday evening. His general condition is still constantly improving. New tests are being conducted to determine the precise reason for the problem."
