Former Scotland international Scott Murray has been named forwards coach at Amlin Challenge Cup Pool 1 club Mont de Marsan.
Mont de Marsan won the Round 3 all-French tournament clash at Bordeaux-Begles 20-13 last week and face their domestic rivals yet again in the home leg on Friday night.
However, a club statement said that results had been unsatisfactory and that forwards coach Marc Dantin had been switched to other responsibilities with Murray taking over the coaching role alongside his playing duties.
The statement said: "After a first half of the season results do not conform to the ambitions of the club.
"The board of directors of Rugby Stade Montois and its President, Jean Robert Cazeaux, have decided to reorganize the coaching staff and have asked Marc Dantin to withdraw from his position while staying at the club in a new role.
"In accordance with all players and staff, it has been proposed that Scott Murray takes over the forwards."
The Aquitaine club prop up the Top 14 league table 10 points adrift of 13th placed Agen but Dantin's sideways move comes soon after only their second league win of the season, 17-16 at Racing Metro 92.
Murray, 36, who won 87 Scotland caps, joined Mont de Marsan in June after three years playing at fellow French sides Montauban and Castres Olympique.
He moved abroad in 2007 following spells with Saracens and Edinburgh Rugby.
Murray made his European debut for Sarries against Colomiers 13 years ago and has gone on to make 67 appearances, 51 in the Heineken Cup and 16 in the Amlin Challenge Cup.
