Frederic Michalak will be hoping to get his first Heineken Cup start in two years when Toulon kick-off their Pool 6 fixtures against Montpellier.
The two-times Heineken Cup winner has returned to Europe after his second spell at The Sharks, where he helped them to reach the 2012 Super Rugby Final and to win the Currie Cup, and is only two games short of joining the ERC Elite 50 cap club.
The versatile French international's 48 previous matches in the tournament were with Toulouse and he featured in three successive finals between 2003-2005, carrying off winners medals in 2003 and 2005.
Michalak has featured at both scrum half and outside half at Toulon and is in contention for the No 10 shirt with France in November. His chances of featuring at outside half at Toulon are limited by the presence of Jonny Wilkinson.
Toulon come into the Heineken Cup as the leading team in France haivng suffered only one defeat in eight Top 14 matches to date. They are grouped with Montpellier, Cardiff Blues and Sale Sharks in Pool 6.
