Northampton Saints will go into the Heineken Cup on the back of a post-match blast from director of rugby Jim Mallinder after losing their 100% record in the Aviva Premiership.
Amlin Challenge Cup side London Irish conjured up season's best 39-17 home win over the table-topping Saints to give themselves a pre-Europe boost, but the result left Mallinder furious with his players.
"There was no intensity there from us, our accuracy in just about everything we did in those first 60 minutes was awful," said the Saints boss, who has to pick his side up for the visit of Glasgow Warriors in the opening round of Heineken Cup games this weekend.
"Mentally, if you underestimate any team in the Premiership then you will get turned over. That's exactly what happened.
"We just weren't up for the game mentally and that showed. As a group we are all very disappointed - we embarrassed ourselves."
Saints remain unbeaten at home this season, but Warriors coach Gregor Townsend will know all about Franklin's Gardens having played with the English club for two seasons in Europe. His side warmed-up for their trip with a second successive RaboDirect PRO12 win in Wales with an 18-3 victory at Cardiff Arms Park last weekend.
