Michael Cheika, who led Leinster Rugby to their first Heineken Cup final triumph, has been released from the final year of his contract with Stade Francais Paris.
The Australian took Stade into the Amlin Challenge Cup final last season, but missed out on winning a second European title in as many years when Harlequins scored a late try to win by a single point.
This season Stade reached the Amlin Challenge Cup semi-finals before once again being agonisingly beaten at the death by a Jonny Wilkinson drop goal that sent Toulon into the final at the Twickenham Stoop on Friday.
Cheika left Leinster immediately after their Heineken Cup win over Leicester Tigers at Murrayfield in 2009 and join the Parisian side. He signed a two-year deal with a possible year extension.
Having been knocked out of the Top 14 play-offs by great rivals Racing Metro 92 this season it was decided the club and their coach would part company.
