That heavy French flavour to this year's closing stages has made it a little harder than normal for Lapeyre and his team-mates to differentiate between domestic and European competition but the fact that the final takes place in England means the May 19 showdown will be a truly unique event.
"Against Stade Français it looked like a Top 14 game but we needed to prepare for the game as a semi-final and focus on the goal of reaching the final," said Lapeyre, who has played in all eight of his side's Amlin Challenge Cup fixtures so far this season.
"It wasn't easy to do that because we knew most of the players we were playing against. In that sense, it didn't have the usual look of a European game.
"It's often better to play foreign teams in the Amlin Challenge Cup and Heineken Cup as it brings something extra to the game. When we played Harlequins at the Stade Felix Mayol it was so special.
"In the final against Biarritz it will be the same as the semi in that we are playing a French team and we know the players, but because the game will be at the Twickenham Stoop in London there will definitely be a real magic about the match.
"It will be easier for us to realise the extent of what's at stake because the atmosphere will be very different over there."
Both side travel across the Channel looking for a first European trophy but while Biarritz are focussed solely on the Amlin Challenge Cup Toulon have their hearts set on a remarkable double.
Toulonare still in the running for the Top 14 title as well as the Amlin crown and Lapeyre is hopeful his team can pick up two pieces of silverware this term.
Reaching the climax of the Challenge Cup clearly means a great deal to Toulon but they know from experience that finishing as tournament runners up is a particularly painful experience having been beaten by Cardiff Blues in the 2010 final.
"We are very happy to be in final but we still need to win it," added Lapeyre, who joined Toulon from Albi the summer after that 28-21 loss to the Blues in Marseilles.
"It's well known that being in a final isn't about how you play - you simply must win it.
"We will do everything we can to make sure we are ready for the challenge and to make sure we come away with a win. Even if a final is often a 50/50 call, we will be going to London to give everything we have.
"There are only few games left before the end of the season and they are all huge games. If we want to win both competitions we need to win several big games in a row.
"We need to show that Toulon is a major force in European competitions and in the French Championship."
