Ross, who has been of the rocks of Leinster's surge to a Twickenham showdown with Ulster next month, admits the 19-15 victory at the Stade Chaban Delmas wasn't Leinster's finest display but the result and the achievement is right up there with anything that's gone before.
"That's one of our toughest wins," said Ross after the TMO spotted a 79th-minute Wesley Fofana knock on as the Clermont centre looked to inflict the blow that would surely have turned victory into defeat for Leinster.
"We had some big games last year against the likes of Northampton and Toulouse but the result was in doubt right until the very end against Clermont.
"We got a bit lucky with the knock on call. But we did well to hold out in what was really backs to the wall stuff in the last two minutes as we tried to keep their big runners out.
"It was an away win in France, in the semi-final stages of the Heineken Cup - you don't get those very often so we'll take it and we'll look forward to the final against Ulster.
"The Leinster fans were fantastic. Clermont had a huge travelling support but I think the Leinster lot were out shouting them by the end."
