But now 'Chunk' has finally got something to look forward to as he prepares for a Heineken Cup semi-final clash with Ulster Rugby at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin, on Saturday, 28 April.
"We are on a roll and long may it continue. We have nothing to fear - especially if we play as well as we know we can," said the 33-year-old international prop.
"Qualifying for the Heineken Cup semi-finals is the biggest chance we've ever had in our careers and, having played for Edinburgh for so many years in this competition, to reach this stage is unbelievable.
"There weren't many people outside of our dressing room who gave us much of a chance against Toulouse, but now they might be looking at us slightly differently."
Jacobsen picked up many plaudits for the way he fronted up to the power of the Toulouse pack at a passionate Murrayfield last weekend and is looking forward to meeting the challenge of Ulster's impressive front row head on at the end of the month.
"We all bought into having a real good go at the Toulouse front row and never giving up whatever happened. It will be the same in the semi-final," said Jacobsen.
"This team doesn't know when it is beaten and we will go to Dublin full of confidence. We had no doubts before the game against Toulouse that if we got things right we could win the game.
"That's what happened and that's what we'll be working towards for the game against Ulster."
