Blues happy with underdogs tag

The Blues go into the crunch European encounter on the back of a disappointing string of results and could not face more formidable opponents than the reigning champions.

Leinster have been installed as the favourites for the clash but Williams reckons the Blues have the firepower to cause a major upset.

"We're the only ones who believe we can do a job out there. We're underdogs but we're quite happy with that tag and are quietly confident that we can win," said Williams.

"There's definitely an opportunity there. The Heineken Cup is big but a quarter-final is even bigger and everything has been geared towards this week."

The scrum-half, son of former Cardiff, Wales and British & Irish Lions star Brynmor Williams played a cameo role during Wales' Six Nations Grand Slam.

He admits the Blues have been below par in recent weeks, especially in the 31-3 defeat to Glasgow Warriors at Firhill.
But he remains confident that his side can get things right to challenge on the day.

"A lot of last week was down to mentality and you have to question whether all the boys wanted to be there," added Williams.

"Preparation went well but for some reason or another we weren't at the races.

"We all wanted to win but they took us by surprise.

"This week we know it will be a tough challenge. Leinster are a tough team to match.

"They have a really good back three and are strong up front. They are a great team and will have a full Aviva Stadium backing them but it's exciting and we can't wait to get stuck into the game.

"Our record in the Heineken Cup has been pretty good. We feel there are areas we can go towards. We have a few ideas that we've been working on and hopefully they will pay off.

"We've gone backwards in the last few weeks, especially defensively, but we know we can match Leinster physically and all the boys are really up for it.

"It's going to be a big task but it's one that we can deal with."
