Dimiti Yachvili warmed-up for Biarritz Olympique's Heineken Cup quarter-final assignment at London Wasps on Easter Saturday by kicking a match-winning 15 points for his side over second placed ASM Clermont Auvergne in the Top 14.
The French scrum half landed five penalties to steer his side through to a vital 15-14 home triumph that moved them further away from the relegation zone.
Clermont, who also travel to London next weekend to face English champions Saracens in the Heineken Cup quarter-finals at Vicarage Road, scored two tries through Alex Lapandry and Benjamin Kayser and led 14-6 at the break.
But Yachvili kept punishing the Clermont mistakes and his three second half penalties were the only other points in a tense affair. This made it three wins in a row for Biarritz, who will now travel to Adams Park on a real high.
Brive came out on top in the battle of two Amlin Challenge Cup quarter finalists as they beat third placed Toulon 14-6. Skipper Antonie Claassen scored the only try of the game and Jonny Wilkinson kicked the visitors points with two penalties.
Toulon host Harlequins at Stade Felix Mayol and Brive entertain the Scarlets next weekend.
