Heineken Cup quarter-finalists Ulster Rugby welcome back their Irish international trio of Rory Best, Andrew Trimble and Stephen Ferris for their European dress-rehearsal against Aironi Rugby at Ravenhill on Friday night.
Ulster beat the Italian side twice in the Pool stages of the Heineken Cup and will be looking to make a clean-sweep of their four clashes this season when they meet in their return RaboDirect PRO12 game in Belfast.
Head Coach Brain McLaughlin has given lock Lewis Stevenson a chance to bid for a place in the side to travel to face Munster Rugby at Thomond Park on Sunday, 8 April in the Heineken Cup quarter-final. He packs down with skipper Johann Muller, with Irish international Dan Tuohy named on the bench.
"Whenever Rory, Andrew and Stevie come back into the squad in gives everyone a great fillip. They have such high standards and demand the same from the other players," said McLaughlin.
"Everyone knows there are places up for grabs in every position and we have great competition throughout the squad. If players get chances they have to take them."
Springbok back row man Pedrie Wannenburg, who is aiming to add a Heineken Cup winner's medal to his Super 14 title, is fit to resume after injury and is another who will be targeting the Munster match as he seeks to end his contract in Ulster on a high. It will be his 50th outing for Belfast-based outfit.
"It's fantastic for Pedrie to earn his 50th cap. He has been a tremendous servant to the club in the two seasons he has been with us. He has shown remarkable consistency last season and this season, despite being unfortunate with injuries in recent times," added Mclaughlin.
