With a morale boosting 34-17 win under their belt last weekend, Biarritz Olympique are still not daring to turn their attention towards their Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final against London Wasps on Saturday, 7 April.
According to Director of Rugby Patrice Laguisquet, the key focus after the 2012 RBS 6 Nations was to pick up points in the Top 14 to try to move out of the relegation zone. The win in Lyon made it three in a row in the Top 14 and a move up to 11th.
It was also the club's third away win of the season and just the tonic they needed before heading to Adams Park to meet Dai Young's side. They have a final warm-up at home against Heineken Cup quarter-finalists ASM Clermont Auvergne this weekend.
"It is very difficult to talk about the Amlin Challenge Cup yet because we are still in a critical situation in the Top 14. The games against Lyon and Clermont are vital for us," admitted Laguisquet.
"But if we get some favourable results then we can switch our focus onto the Amlin Challenge Cup and use that tournament to regain some of our European ambitions.
"It is a very important tournament because it offers a ticket into the Heineken Cup to the winners. It is a very interesting and high level competition because a lot of French and English clubs rely on it to earn a ticket into the Heineken Cup.
"It is bit like the French Cup in football - if you win it you can play in Europe in the Europa League even if you did a bad season in the championship.
"I remember that Biarritz got into the Heineken Cup for the first time by winning the last edition of the French rugby cup, Le Trophée du Manoir, back in 2000. So, if we get the same opportunity this year, we won't waste it!"
