Medard, who won the Heineken Cup with Toulouse in 2010, is one of the most potent attacking forces in European rugby and has scored 10 Test tries in 30 appearances for France.
He played in the Rugby World Cup final earlier this season and has kept his replacement for the rearranged game against Ireland in Paris, Clement Poitrenaud, out of the full back jersey for both club and country.
The vastly experienced Poitrenaud, a triple Heineken Cup winner with his club in 2003, 2005 and 2010, has been recalled by France and will be the natural replacement for Toulouse for their quarter-final clash at Murrayfield on Saturday, 7 April.
