McGahan wary of Ulster

The Irish rivals were drawn against each other after Munster topped Pool One and Ulster qualified as the second-best group stage runner-up.

They will face off for the first time in Heineken Cup history at Thomond Park in April, with a place in the last four up for grabs.

McGahan is more than aware of the threat the 1999 European Champions pose after they qualified from the 'group of death'.

"We're certainly very aware of the of the sort of challenge Ulster will provide and recognise the quality they have in their squad," said McGahan.

"To come out of the group they were in was one thing but to produce the performances they did especially that win over Leicester Tigers in Ravenhill, shows exactly what a good side they are.

"And their performance at the weekend in Clermont indicates they are comfortable on the road and wont be at all fazed by having to travel for the quarters."

For now Munster's immediate focus is on domestic affairs, while their international contingent depart for international duty.

Only then will McGahan be able to begin preparations for the clash with Ulster as Munster target a third Heineken Cup crown.

"That's a some time off, added McGahan. "There's internationals to be played, PRO12 matches so we'll see how players come through that phase of the season before turning our attention back to Heineken Cup."
