Rob Baxter was "delighted" as Exeter Chiefs turned around a 10-point half-time deficit to complete an Amlin Challenge Cup double over Newport Gwent Dragons.
The Chiefs trailed 16-6 at the interval following a scintillating try from Wales international Toby Faletau.
But the English club came storming back following the break and grabbed tries through Simon Alcott and James Phillips to snatch a 23-19 win.
The victory means Exeter return to the top of Pool Four tied on 14-points with Perpignan, while the Dragons face an uphill challenge to qualify.
"I'm delighted with that result and it keeps things in our hands," said Baxter.
"We said to the guys going into this double-header that our target was to still be in the pool fighting and we've certainly done that.
"A win was massively important here."
Baxter was particularly pleased with how his side kept fighting and turned around their half-time deficit.
"Primarily we told them not to chase the game. We hadn't really built much pressure in the game and it had been fractured which suited the Dragons," added the Exeter Chiefs head coach.
"The difference in the first-half was a breakaway try and as much as they count on the scoreboard they don't count for much in the game.
"We wanted to stay in the game, up the pressure in the set-piece and stay strong. "I felt if we did that the Dragons would be under more pressure in front of their home crowd and we could get the win.
"We cranked up the pressure and it really told. We were far better in the tight and came away with the win."
But Baxter insists there is plenty of work left to do to secure qualification to the knockout stages and urged his charges to win their final two games in a bid to claim a home quarter-final
"We haven't taken charge of the Pool and Perpignan are a very good team but it's nice to have them at home.
"We've had a nice few wins on the bounce going into Christmas and hopefully we can carry that through and keep playing winning rugby.
"If we can win our next two games and have a nice quarterfinal at home."
