"Dan is a fantastic player and the best prepared player in our team. No stone is left unturned by him and he is incredibly diligent," said Humphreys.
"If you asked me if he is worth a place back in the Welsh squad, then we would say 'yes'. If you asked me if I would like to see him return to the Welsh gold, then I'd have to say we'd miss him."
Humphreys was also pleased to see Wales and British & Irish Lions prop Adam Jones back for the first time since damaging his calf at the World Cup. He lasted 65 minutes before leaving the field.
"Adam went on for as long as he could and we are hoping he will be fit to travel to Italy next week to face Benetton Treviso," said Humphreys.
"That is going to be an incredibly tough game and Italian rugby has really come on since they went to two super franchises. Gone are the days when you could bank on taking bonus points home and away against an Italian side."
