DAVID YOUNG is determined to restore London Wasps' status in Europe when they kick off their Amlin Challenge Cup campaign with a daunting trip to face Bordeaux-Begles on Saturday.
The London Wasps coach, who guided his former side, the Cardiff Blues, to the Amlin Challenge Cup title in 2010, knows his said face a major challenge against a home side who recorded a comfortable win over Castres last weekend.
"Everybody wants to do well in Europe and we are no different," said Young.
"We've had a look at Bordeaux and how they like to play and they are a typically French side with a very strong set piece and the ability to do damage if they get time and space.
"We'll have to get parity up front to make sure we are in with a chance of getting an away win but we're looking forward to the challenge of another competition in a different environment."
Wasps and Bordeaux-Begles have met before, in 2002, where Wasps were 29-23 winners away from home and 43-6 winners on home soil.
Richard Birkett, who is in the Wasps startling line-up this weekend, is the only survivor from the side that played in those games.
