Prop John Afoa - a World Cup winner with New Zealand last month - has been nominated by Ulster Rugby as an additional player for their Heineken Cup 2011 / 2012 campaign.
Each club is allowed to put forward two additional players during the Pool stages, one of them must be a front row forward, and the Irish club has also nominated South African utility back Stefan Terblanche in their 38-player squad.
And 2007 World Cup winning captain and Springbok hooker John Smit has been nominated by English champions Saracens as one of their two permitted additional players ahead of the Round 1 matches being played this weekend.
Others nominated as additional players by the Heineken Cup clubs are centre Kyle Tonetti (Connacht Rugby) and utility back Gaetan Germain (Racing Metro 92).
In the Amlin Challenge Cup additional players nominated are half back Riaan Swanepoel (Brive), scrum halves Patrick Phibbs (Exeter Chiefs) and Cillian Willis (Sale Sharks) and Lyon Rugby prop Philemon Toleafoa.
All the nominated additional players must replace a de-registered player in the club's squad and no squad can exceed 38 players.
