There were contrasting fortunes for two of the Heineken Cup Pool 2 sides on Friday night as Racing Metro 92 picked up a priceless away win in the Top 14 at Brive and their visitors next week, Cardiff Blues, found their game washed-out at Rodney Parade.
The French side enjoyed an 18-12 triumph at Brive to move into fifth place in the Top 14 with their fifth win in 10 outings. The 21-year-old full back Gaetan Germain kicked four penalties, outside half Jonathan Wisniewski added another and scrum half Mathieu Loree dropped a goal.
Racing will host the Blues in their opening game in Pool 2 on Friday night at Stade Olympique Yves du Manoir at the start of their second season in the Heineken Cup.
The Blues had hoped to welcome back a number of their Welsh World Cup stars in a local derby against Newport Gwent Dragons in the RaboDirect PRO12 on Friday night, but torrential rain forced the game to be postponed.
