Edinburgh go Double Dutch

The 20-year-old Netherlands-born flyer has signed a training contract with Michael Bradley's men and could yet have that arrangement upgraded by the time Edinburgh begin their European campaign at London Irish on November 12.

Sep will hope to match Tim's achievements as he steps into the role of a full-time professional following spells with Newcastle Academy, Tyndale and Boroughmuir.

Tim has enjoyed a remarkable record since arriving in the Scottish capital, twice claiming the top try scorer honour in Celtic competition.

Tim's seven scores in the Heineken and Amlin Challenge Cups with Newcastle and Edinburgh are further evidence of his finishing abilities and Sep has already demonstrated similar strengths.

Sep claimed an incredible 23 tries in 29 appearances for Tyndale, as well as three in five games from full back for Boroughmuir, prior to being invited to represent Edinburgh in a pre-season friendly.

That summer appearance against Sale Sharks and his efforts while training part-time with the Club have convinced Bradley and the Edinburgh hierachy that Sep can follow in his brother's footsteps sooner rather than later.

"It's fantastic for us to welcome Sep to the club," said Bradley, whose side also face Cardiff Blues and Racing Metro 92 in Pool 2 of this year's Heineken Cup.

"He joins a very talented crop of young players at Edinburgh Rugby. He's an exciting, raw talent and I'm sure he'll benefit a great deal from this opportunity."

And while Sep is simply delighted to be given a chance at the highest level, he admits the thought of playing alongside his brother is an added incentive to succeed.

"Tim has done really well here, he's improved a lot as a player since coming to Edinburgh and has always said the set-up here is great, which is one of the main reasons I want to train with, and ultimately play for, Edinburgh Rugby," said Sep.

"The opportunity to train at Murrayfield is massive for me, especially at 20 years old. It's really good for my skill and strength development to train full-time.

"Looking ahead, the chance to play alongside Tim would be really special, particularly for our parents, but the priority for me is to train hard and get the chance to play games and if that's alongside Tim then that's a bonus."

Those sentiments were echoed by Visser senior, who featured in four of Edinburgh's Heineken Cup ties last term, scoring a crucial try in the 24-22 win over Castres Olympique in late December.

"I'm very happy for Sep. He's been working really hard off the pitch and in his trials with Edinburgh Rugby, so I'm delighted that he's getting the chance to prolong the opportunity to train full-time and get the benefit of the excellent facilities at the club," added Tim.

"It's brilliant for him and great for me to have my brother settled here in Scotland. He's becoming a really good player and I can see a lot of me in him. He's a big strong ball carrier and I'm grateful that he's been given this chance."
