Northampton Saints are still sweating on the fitness of Tom Wood for Saturday's Heineken Cup Final in Cardiff.
The East Midlands outfit face Leinster at the Millennium Stadium this weekend, with the whole of Northampton hoping their star flanker will be fit enough to play his part.
Wood has been truly outstanding this term, winning the Aviva Premiership Player of the Year Award in his first season at Franklin's Gardens.
The 24-year-old has had a massive impact since his summer move from relegated Worcester as the Saints made strides at home and in Europe.
Having played in all six pool games and the Heineken Cup quarter-final triumph against Ulster, as well as 15 of his side's domestic fixtures, Wood has been a mainstay of the Saints starting XV.
But injury has forced Wood to miss the last four games, including the Heineken Cup semi-final win over Perpignan in Milton Keynes.
Wood suffered a hairline fracture of his leg in the defeat to Gloucester on April 19 and has been a frustrated spectator ever since.
Sleeping in an oxygen tent was meant to speed up his recovery but Northampton boss Jim Mallinder admits the new England cap may yet miss out on the biggest day in Saints' history for over a decade.
