The former Newport, London Irish and Leeds scrum-half made 23 European appearances in his career, the last of which came in 2008 playing for Leeds in the Amlin Challenge Cup.
He joined the coaching team at the Dragons back in 2009 as backs coach and is delighted to have secured a new three year deal.
"I'm thrilled to be taking on this role," said Edwards.
"We have a strong coaching team here and a quality squad.
"There are big things to come for us and with the stadium regeneration well underway, it is a really exciting time to be involved with the Dragons.
"There is a lot of responsibility involved with the role but its an exciting place to be over the next couple of years and really happy with the squad of players I have got here.
"The important thing for a coach is to be out there on the field with the players and we have a number of young players who need that guidance but as a coaching team we are very hands on."
Beale, has also signed a three-year deal and will concentrate on all aspects of rugby in the region away from the field where Edwards will have full control.
"I am really happy to secure my future as well for the next three years," said Beale.
"My role here has always been to develop the region, but this gives me much more scope to focus on the region as whole."
