Ward played for Wasps five times in the Heineken Cup this season including the victory over reigning champions Toulouse in the final pool match which helped the former European cup winners clinch a spot in the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-finals.
"This is another statement of intent for the club as we continue building a big competitive pack for next season and beyond," said Sale's executive director of sport Steve Diamond.
"Joe has been one of the top performers in the Premiership over the last six seasons and I am looking forward to working with him when he joins us in June."
