And while the solitary point Munster picked up in a freezing South Wales may yet prove crucial as far as quarter-final qualification is concerned, the pain of defeat was all that was on Leamy's mind in the immediate aftermath of another ferocious Heineken Cup battle.
"If you could see our dressing room, the fellas are absolutely gutted in there," said Leamy at the post-match press conference.
"We play this game to win every match and, unfortunately, it doesn't always happen like that. We created enough opportunities and got into enough areas where we could score but we just didn't really take our chances and it's very disappointing to come away with a defeat.
"The bonus point is probably comfort for another day. Today, losing the winning four is what we're hugely disappointed with.
"I think on reflection, it's something, and you have to take everything you can get in this competition.
"We managed to stand up and keep the Ospreys out when they sensed that they could take another point off us. We managed to put in some good tackles and drive them back but that'll be comfort for another day. We've got a lot of soul searching to do over the next couple of days."
In a match in which there was never more than a single score between the teams, Leamy felt his side had enough opportunities to come away with a win.
The talismanic No8, who carried superbly and was always looking for work, admitted that it could have been a different story had Munster been more patient and clinical in attack, especially during a 10-minute spell early in the second half when the Red Army were camped on the Ospreys line.
"I felt we were going to win the game all the way through," added Leamy.
"I thought we were putting the pressure on in the right areas. I thought we created enough and I felt that, if we kept on being as positive as we were, we'd go on and win the game.
"Unfortunately, we didn't finish as well as we'd have liked and we ended up defending at the end rather than attacking which wasn't something I expected midway through the second half. I thought we'd have been knocking at their line trying to get the win rather than trying to save a bonus point.
"We created some great phases of rugby, we made yardage and we were right up against their line. All we needed was a little bit of patience there and we were going over.
"All we needed was to just keep banging away there and eventually we'd get over. To lose control of the ball there and give them a turnover which they cleared halfway down the pitch was obviously a huge relief for them. It definitely hurt us.
"To be fair to them, there was some very good defence, but when we get into those areas we need to convert them. We were very disappointed not to do that and that had a big effect on the rest of the game."
