Friday night's 28-16 defeat to the Heineken Cup holders at Firhill may have significantly damaged the Warriors' hopes of reaching this season's knockout stages.
Fast forward 23 months and Vernon and co find themselves in a similar situation ahead of their trip to France. All that's left now is for lightening to strike twice. But while it may be a long shot, the Warriors will head across the Channel full of confidence knowing they've scaled rugby's Everest once before and there's no reason why they can't do so again.
"I'd like to think it's possible," said Vernon.
"I remember playing there a couple of years ago and it was certainly a hostile atmosphere and that's something I'll never forget. I think a lot of the guys will remember that game and really look forward to going back to Toulouse and that crowd.
"It's definitely up there with my best moments in a Glasgow shirt. I'd certainly say it's one of my highlights. My only regret is that I only played about 15 minutes in the game. It was a great experience for me and a big learning experience.
"We just went out thinking that we were going to put as much pressure on them as we could. They're a brilliant team - a superstar team - but when you put pressure on any team, players respond differently. They're human and they're going to make mistakes. That's something we've got to focus on for next week as well.
"It'd certainly be an amazing turnaround. We've got a lot to improve on and it's going to take a gargantuan effort this week. We're going to have to work really hard in training and show some guts.
"There's not many better places to get your season back on track than away at Toulouse. Hopefully we can repeat what we did two years ago."
Toulouse turned on the style in the first-half of Friday's Round 3 encounter in Scotland but the Warriors kept things much tighter in the second period, with the visitors edging the final 40 minutes just 3-0.
And while Vernon admits that improvements must be made if Glasgow are to return from France with another famous win, the Scotland back row star believes there are plenty of reasons to remain positive prior to one of the biggest challenges in world rugby.
"We played a lot better in the second half but we're really going to have to up our game next week,2 added Vernon.
"They'll take a lot of confidence from the first result and they'll be looking for a four-try bonus point next week.
"But we can take confidence from the second half - when we did do things right, we were testing them. We know we can score tries against them if we play our best attacking rugby.
"It does give us that belief. Who knows, they may have taken their foot off the pedal, but I don't think they did. They had three tries and were looking for a fourth one but our defence improved a lot.
"Perhaps Toulouse went into that game a couple of years ago thinking it might be an easy game for them but they certainly won't be thinking that this year because of that result. To beat them again would be an even greater effort."
