Double Heineken Cup winner Paul O'Connell will be hoping the weather does not put paid to his long awaited return for Munster this weekend.
The British & Irish Lion second-row has not played for the Irish province since January after a longer than expected spell on the sideline with a groin injury and will be hoping that the arctic conditions sweeping across Europe will not cause Munster's Celtic League clash against Cardiff Blues to be cancelled.
The conditions have already forced a time-change for the Thomond Park clash and O'Connell, who came through a game for club side Young Munster last weekend, will be looking for match fitness ahead of his side's Pool 3 back-to-back games against the Ospreys.
The weather has already had a big affect of the domestic calendar for this weekend, with three Celtic league and two English premiership games postponed.
International players, returning from autumn international duty, would also have been looking to settle back in to club life ahead of the Heineken Cup which returns in little over a week.
Ulster and Connacht have been forced to cancel fixtures against the Newport Gwent Dragons and Aironi respectively.
Glasgow Warriors' match against Treviso has also been ruled out and Edinburgh are seeking alternative transportation to make it to their clash with the Ospreys in South Wales after the City's airport was closed.
In England two of the games taking place in the North have been cancelled, Sale's Friday night encounter with Gloucester and Newcastle Falcon's game against Bath.
