Edinburgh coach Rob Moffat is hoping his side can build on back-to-back wins over Leinster and Aironi in the Magners League as they aim to break one of their long-standing Heineken Cup hoodoos.
As they prepare for their Pool 1 opener against Cardiff Blues at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday the Scottish side will be conscious of the fact they have yet to win an away-day opening fixture in 13 seasons of Heineken Cup action.
In fact, Edinburgh have won only once on the road in their last 20 Heineken Cup outings away from Murrayfield - a first win on French soil against Pool 1 rivals Castres Olympique two years ago - and know they need to get off to a winning start if they are to make something of their campaign.
The two sides have already met in the Welsh capital once this season, the Blues winning 34-23 on the opening weekend, but Moffat's men can still point to three victories on their last four trips to Cardiff.
"We'll go to Cardiff in a very positive frame of mind after the last couple of games, and mindful of the fact that in this competition, how you fare in the first couple of matches is crucial," explained Moffat.
"We can take a lot of confidence from the fact we won all our home Pool games last season, but we know the next step is picking up points on the road. We've done well in Cardiff in the recent past and I've been really struck by the determination of the guys to maintain that record and get our campaign off to a positive start.
"There's been an edge to training this week, just what you would want in the run-up to such an important game. It's now about carrying that into the match itself and making sure we come away with the right result."
Scotland's leading points and cap holder, Chris Paterson, returns to a 25-man squad for the game after missing the tip to Aironi with a foot injury. British & Irish Lions scrum half Mike Blair is also fit to resume after a hamstring problem.
