Ian Humphreys is proving to be a chip off the old block in the Ulster No 10 jersey, but the Ireland A playmaker is more concerned with team matters than personal accolades.
Having returned from Leicester Tigers to help fill the jersey once graced by elder brother, and now team manager, David Humpherys, Ian picked up the Heineken Man of the Match award for his contribution to the 16-16 draw with the Scarlets in Pool 4.
A stunning first-half try and six more points from the Humphreys boot seemed to have set Ulster on their way to a first away win in Europe since January, 2006. But a second half fightback from the home side saw them end their dismal run of 10 successive defeats in the tournament and take a share of the spoils.
"I was pretty surprised when I found out I was man of the match. I think the award was pretty generous to be honest," said the 26-year-old Humphreys.
"I'd much rather we'd have won and someone else had won man-of-the-match. I think it would be fair to say it was two points lost
"At half-time we were 10 points ahead. We thought we were turning around with the wind but it seemed to be swirling a bit and was pretty bizarre.
"I missed a few kicks and Stephen Jones kicked very well. It was our fault that we didn't win and full credit to the Scarlets.
"They played well, but we made silly errors and missed opportunities for points, both with kicking at goal and when it came to try time."
Next up for Humphreys and his team-mates are two mouth-watering clashes with the group's top sides - Pool leaders Harlequins and French aristocrats Stade Français Paris. Those fixtures may not take place until January, but Humphreys insists a young Ulster side are already looking forward to the challenge and, more importantly, to returning to winning ways.
"We're at home to Harlequins next and we potentially could have beaten them in October. Even though the scoreline was bad over there, we felt we could have won that game," said Humphreys.. "Going over to play away at Stade should be a great occasion. Hopefully, the sun will be shining, there'll be a big crowd and it'll be a nice day.
"We've come a long way in the last few months, but we can't keep making excuses that we're a young side. We've got leaders and people who have been about the place in a lot of the key areas and we've got a lot of internationals.
"Although we are a young team, this was a game we should have won. If we want to move forward, we have to win these games."
