Dai Young insists his Cardiff Blues showed character after "winning ugly" against Biarritz.
The Blues were force to rely on 15 points from tournament top scorer Ben Blair and two drop goals by Nick Robinson after firing blanks at the try line.
But they remain top of Pool Six with a third win on the bounce.
Young said: "We didn't really play well but we have come away with a win and that's the most important thing. We would have settled for 14 points out of a possible 15 before the tournament started.
"We struggled to get any momentum, quick ball or get behind Biarritz and their defence must take a lot of credit.
"But I thought we showed a lot of character and game skill to come back and dig out the win.
"It was always going to be difficult and physical against Biarritz and it has been a difficult week with the international players coming back to the squad. A few of them only trained one day and looked as if this was a game too many."
