Woodford RFC gained victory after a closely fought Heineken 10s competition at Westcliffe RFC on Saturday 22nd November.
Woodford RFC won a thrilling final against the home side and were delighted with the win. Captain Ben Lloyd said, 'It's been a great tournament and particularly nice to beat Westcliff on home soil'.
In the plate competition, the East London University team won the plate competition. Proud captain Michael Sharn said, 'It's been a fantastic day and it's the first piece of silverware for a number of years, we're really pleased'.
The Plate and Cup competition were closely contested by teams from the surrounding area. Both Woodford and East London University did well to beat the stiff competition coming from the following clubs; South Woodham, Upminster, Eton Manor, Burnham, and Medway as well as the home club Westcliff.
By winning this Heineken 10s festival, the last of 2008, Woodford RFC will be the last team to automatically go into the hat alongside previous victors to become eligible for the Heineken legacy donation, which will be awarded to one of the victorious clubs at the completion of the competition.
The Heineken 10s, which took place from August - November in 2008 at 15 separate clubs, is designed to complement Heineken's sponsorship of the Heineken Cup, an association that was recently renewed until 2013.
The Heineken 10s are the first ever national club 10s tournament in England and will enable over 3000 amateur players annually to get involved.
