(London) - Kings RFC Under 21s made an excellent effort in preparing for the new season by defeating local rivals Warlingham RFC in the second Heineken 10s tournament this weekend.
The South London club made the most of the home support by dominating the competition throughout and claiming victory against Warlingham 21-10 in the final. A spectacular hat-trick in the first half by Gareth Stopani made it impossible for Warlingham to come back despite a push in the closing five minutes.
Captain Alex Humphries said:
"We played well for the first twelve to fifteen minutes and managed to hold onto the lead, it was a great team performance and everyone made a fantastic effort. It's been a really good tournament, hard work but an excellent start for the coming season."
With their victory, Kings RFC will be the second team to enter the pool for a Heineken legacy donation, to be awarded at the end of the 15 separate Heineken 10s competitions taking place across the UK.
In the plate competition, Old Wimbledonians were too good for Emanuel winning 33-5. Old Wimbledonians captain, Donny Tribbiani said:
"It's been an excellent day, Heineken have done a great job staging it, it's been great preparation for our season and it's nice to get some silverware in the cabinet, we're delighted."
The Heineken 10s, which take place at 15 separate clubs this autumn, will act as the perfect prelude to another exciting season of European competition. The tournaments are the first ever national club 10s tournament in England and will see over 3500 amateur players getting involved.
