Matlock RFC made the most of home advantage as they emerged victorious at the first Heineken 10s tournament this weekend.
The Derbyshire club overcame a sluggish start to the competition to defeat Durham Occasionals in a closely fought final at Matlock RFC on 16th August.
Roared on by a noisy crowd, the home side proved too good for their oppostition to claim victory and in the process became the first team to enter the pool for a Heineken legacy donation, to be awarded at the end of the 16 spearate Heineken 10s competitions taking place across the UK.
In the plate competition, Nottinghamshire club Mellish were triumphant during a day of fantastic pre season rugby.
The Heineken 10s, which take place at 15 separate clubs this autumn, will act as the perfect prelude to another exciting season of European competition. The tournaments are the first ever national club 10s tournament in England and will see over 3500 amateur players getting involved.
