Imperial College claimed top spot at the fourth Heineken 10s rugby festival held at Wasps FC on Saturday 13th September and in the process claimed the university bragging rights after their defeat of the Imperial College Old Boys team in the final.
The students from Imperial were the stand out performers on a day of high quality rugby as they cut a swathe of destruction through the pool stages, scoring well over 100 points in their three games for the loss of only one try in return. Only when they came up against their former colleagues in the Old Boys team were they truly tested, before running out deserved winners.
By winning the third Heineken 10s festival, Imperial automatically go into the hat alongside previous winners to become eligible for the Heineken legacy donation, to be awarded to one of the victorious clubs at the completion of the competition.
In the plate competition, a strong team from Rosslyn Park defeated London Scottish in the final, having overcome Thamesians in their pool decider 41 - 5.
The Heineken 10s, which take place at 15 separate clubs this autumn, will act as the perfect prelude to another exciting season of European competition. The tournaments are the first ever national club 10s tournament in England and will see over 3500 amateur players getting involved.
