Saracens and London Wasps ensured the English clubs came out on top of their French rivals in the PARKER PEN CHALLENGE CUP as they made amends for the 26-0 defeat of NEC Harlequins at The Stoop by Stade Francais with victories over Colomiers and Bordeaux-Begles.
Saracens gained the upper hand in their first leg in the second round with a hard-fought 16-6 victory
at Vicarage Road. A first-half try from Irish wing Darragh O'Mahony proved crucial and Thomas Castaignede added a conversion and a penalty.
Adryan Winnan also kicked two penalties to give the home side a healthy 16-0 interval lead.But life got a lot tougher in the second half and Colomiers hit back with two David Skrela penalties to cut the deficit to 10 points for the return leg next weekend.
London Wasps proved too storng for Bordeaux-Begles at Adams Park and will take a 37 points advanatge with them to France next weekend for the second leg after bagging six tries in a 43-6 victory.
Wasp's tries came from Craig Dowd, Lawrence Dallaglio, Simon Shaw, Mark Van Gisbergen, Stuart Abbott, and there was also a penalty try awarded. Alex King chipped in with five conversions and a penalty for a personal tally of 13 points.
The visitors' had two penalties from Richard Dourthe.
