Gary Armstrong returns from injury to lead The Borders in the PARKER PEN CHALLENGE CUP match against Montauban at Netherdale. The visiting side carries a 19-16 lead after last week's first leg in France, and the return of The Borders' captain provides a timely boost.
The Borders coach, Tony Gilbert, said: "We have missed Gary's experience and we're pleased to welcome him back to the side. We were very disappointed to lose the game in France after being 11-0 up at half-time. We went there to win - there's no question of that. But it's fortunate that in this competition we have a second chance and we're looking forward now to tomorrow's match. It's an important game for us. If we win this it can gain us a foothold in Europe."
Armstrong said: "We watched the video of last week's game on Monday, as we always do, and the lads were very disappointed with the way we lost. I'm very pleased to be back playing after a couple of wee setbacks, and we're confident we can get the better of them at Netherdale and set ourselves up for the rest of the season. It's a big game for us. All the games have been big and the crowds have been excellent - over 4,000 for all of them. So we're confident we'll have a decent support tomorrow night."
Another player returning from injury is Stephen Cranston. Asked if his selection represented a risk, Gilbert said: "Anything is a risk, but Stephen has all the attributes to be a top player and it's up to him. The guys who have come in while Stephen's been injured have done a fine job, but Stephen combines the best attributes of a number of players. He's fit again and so he's in the team."
