ERC can confirm that the Federation Française de Rugby (FFR) has withdrawn its application to host the 2014 Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup finals, due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding the availability of the Stade de France.
The teams entering Round 1 of the PARKER PEN SHIELD were the 16 losers from Round 1 of the PARKER PEN CHALLENGE CUP. There are seven Italian clubs, four French teams, two each from Spain and Wales and one from Romania taking part in Round 1 of the PARKER PEN SHIELD tournament.
The outcome of the draw means the games will be played in the following order:
PARKER PEN SHIELD ROUND 1 (FIRST LEG) - 6/7/8 December
Match 17: Castres Olympique v Grenoble
Match 18: L'Aquila Rugby v Dinamo Bucuresti
Match 19: Ebbw Vale v Madrid 2012
Match 20: Pau v GR.A.N. Rugby Parma
Match 21: La Moraleja Alcobendas v Rugby Parma
Match 22: Rugby Rovigo v Caerphilly
Match 23: Mont de Marsan v Rugby Silea
Match 24: Rugby Roma v Petrarca Padova
The return, Second Leg matches, will be played on 13/14/15 December.
The draw pitches last season's Heineken Cup semi-finalist Castres Olympique against fellow French side Grenoble, while Italian team Rugby Rovigo will meet up again with Welsh club Caerphilly. They met in the 1998/99 Shield tournament, when Rovigo were 34-14 winners in a Pool 1 game.
Rugby Roma meet Padova in an all-Italian affair, while last season's Shield quarter-finalists Pau will tackle Rugby Parma.
