PARKER PEN CHALLENGE CUP side Pontypridd have been in devastating form in European competition this season.
They put 143 points on Rugby Roma scoring 21 tries in the process in the two legs of Round 1. And the Sardis Road team can put much of their recent fine results down to the influence of Kiwi born Sonny Parker.
Parker has been in excellent form this season, and has enjoyed the challenge of European opposition. Parker scored two tries in his sides 60-18 demolition of the Italian side in the first leg of Round 1 of the PARKER PEN CHALLENGE CUP.
His performances for Ponty this season have resulted in him being called up to the Wales squad for the BT Autumn International Series.
But had it not been for the former Wales coach Graham Henry then Parker may have never graced Welsh rugby with his immense talent.
"I was trying to get my fitness back after I suffered a stress fracture of my tibia," said Parker.
"So I went to play for Viadana in Italy and while I was over there Graham Henry suggested I try my luck in Wales.
"I was supposed to link up with Newport, but they had too many foreign players in their squad, so I went to Pontypridd, and it's been fantastic."
Parker's form at Pontypridd comes on the back of a great partnership with inside centre Jon Bryant.
"He's been great and I'm really enjoying playing alongside him," said Parker.
"We're a very close-knit club. We're all good friends and we have a good time after games.
"I've got two years left on my contract but I'm not going anywhere."
Pontypridd are next in European action in the second round of the PARKER PEN CHALLENGE CUP when they take on Leeds Tykes at Sardis Road on the weekend of December 6,7,8.
