Reggie Corrigan was the most relived man in Ireland today when he was declared fit to return to captain the Leinster Lions side for their Heineken Cup semi-final shoot out with Perpignan at Lansdowne Road on Sunday.
The Irish loose head prop has been out of action since breaking his wrist wile playing for Ireland against Italy in the RBS Six Nation s on February 22.
He just missed out on returning for the quarter-final against Biarritz Olympique two weeks ago. But now he is fully fit and raring to go, and coach matt Williams had no hesitation in naming him in his side.
"It is a great boost for us to have Reggie back. He has been a great captain for us both on and off the field," said Williams.
"The biggest compliment I can give him is by saying that Brian O'Driscoll told me that he was only the vice captain of the side standing in for the skipper while he was injured. Brian, like all of us, is delighted to have Reggie back.
"I always said the quarter-final against Biarritz was going to be one of our toughest hurdles because we hadn't played together for so long. Two weeks on, we are in better shape and will be even better two weeks later."
Corrigan is the only change in the Leinster side from the team that beat Biarritz 18-13 at Lansdowne Road. On that occasion he was reduced to the role of spectator.
"I'm thrilled that the lads were able to win against Biarritz and give me a chance to play In the semi-final. It was murder having to watch," said Corrigan.
"It was a special occasion for the players to play in front of a packed Lansdowne Road two weeks ago and it will be great to have another capacity crowd roaring us on against Perpignan.
"Everyone talks about the Munster fans, but the Leinster supporters have shown this season they are a match for anyone. They really are like a 16th player for us."
Williams pointed to Perpignan outside-half Manny Edmonds as one of the dangermen on Sunday. Williams knows Edmonds very well, having given him his first start for the New South Wales Waratahs in the 1990's.
"I always thought that many got a raw deal in Australia. He never got the recognition his talents deserved," said Williams.
"I just hope that he hasn't got a trick or two up his sleeve that I don't know about. He is a good all round player who brings out the best in the players around him, and has a superb kicking game.
