The Heineken Cup quarter-finalists had a largely successful weekend as they played their final games before the elite European competition kicks-off again.
In France, Toulouse, Biarritz and Perpignan all recorded victories in the elite play-off stage of the French Championship. Reigning champions Biarritz recorded a 39-30 victory over PARKER PEN SHIELD semi-finalists Pau. Toulouse brushed past Bourgoin 37-19, and Perpignan were not troubled by Grenoble, outscoring their visitors 38-14.
Perpignan's opponents in the quarter-final are Llanelli, who beat Neath 49-17 in the Principality Cup quarter-final last weekend.
But despite a six try to two victory, coach Gareth Jenkins was not happy.
"With that score against Neath, we should feel fine, but in truth we are not in the shape I would like us to be.
"We need to be better to take on Perpignan."
Northampton will be hoping their Powergen Cup Final defeat to Gloucester was just a blip. The Saints - winners of the Heineken Cup in 2000 - went down 40-22 at Twickenham.
Leinster played a training game against Ulster on Friday afternoon. Four 20-minute 'games' were played. The games were not competitive, but Leinster backrow man Aidan McCullen described the exercise as "useful".
Played in an empty Lansdowne Road, Matt Williams' men had the opportunity to practice their line-out calls, set-piece and game plan for next week.
Leicester Tigers beat PARKER PEN SHIELD holders Sale Sharks in the Zurich Premiership 33-20.
Austin Healey, who had been injured in a training exercise last week, scored a try as is being considered for the Munster game next week. Coach Dean Richards said.
"The best option may be to play Austin at scrum half with Sam Vesty at fly half.
Leicester's opponents, Munster, did not play this weekend, they will name their 22 on Tuesday.
