Caerphilly coach Mark Ring hopes his club can become only the third Welsh team to reach a European final, following in the footsteps of Cardiff and Pontypridd. Cardiff contested the 1996 Heineken Cup final and Pontypridd the 2002 PARKER PEN SHIELD final.
'We have a chance to make history for Caerphilly RFC and bring to a head a lot of hard work from people involved with the club.' said Ring.
But Ring fears that both home advantage and that lead could be threatened by a growing injury list.
Ring's injury and suspension list is a who's who of Caerphilly rugby. Sione Tuipolutu, Joe El-Abd (both suspended) Holo Taufahema (leg) Sam Cox (shoulder), Richard Skuse (taken back by Bristol), Chris Ferris (knee ligaments) Luke Richards (ankle), Andrew Williams (AC joint) and El-Abd will all miss the crucial Padova match. But Faeo Vunipola (knee ligament), and Mark Workman (ankle) have both passed fitness tests and will start.
Caerphilly go into the second leg of their PARKER PEN SHIELD semi-final against Petrarca Padova in front of the S4C cameras at Virginia Park on Saturday evening with an 18-point advantage from their first leg encounter.
Meanwhile, Petrarca Padova have named their side for the crunch tie.
