Leicester Tigers' preparations for their forthcoming Heineken Cup quarter-final against Munster have been hampered with the news that Lewis Moody will be unavailable for selection following a serious injury.
The England flanker picked up a shoulder injury in England's 25-17 win over France on February 15.
He underwent surgery as his international team-mates were defeating Wales 26-9 at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, February 22.
Reports suggest Moody will be sidelined for around five months - ruling him out of further participation in this season's Heineken Cup.
Moody made his England debut on their North American tour in 2001, and alongside Saracens' Richard Hill and club colleague Neil Back, he has emerged as one of the top back row players in the world, and a key member of the Leicester Tigers side.
He has made a real impact this season, helping the Tigers to remain unbeaten in the Pool stage of the Heineken Cup.
His presence on the field will be missed when the Tigers tackle Munster in eagerly anticipated re-run of last year's Heineken Cup final.
The two sides take to the Welford Road field on April 13, where Dean Richard's and his men can expect a hostile reaction from the Munster fans, many of whom still harbour memories of the narrow defeat in Cardiff last year, and would love nothing more than putting one over on their old adversaries.
