Glasgow became the first British side to qualify for this season's Parker Pen Challenge Cup second round with a comfortable
38-13 victory at home to
Montpellier.
The French side were never in it as the Scots made up for the disappointment of not being in the Heineken Cup to romp home. Glasgow took a 19-point margin into the match, and Montpellier were always 100-1 to narrow that. They now go into
the Shield competition.
Winger Sean Lamont bagged two tries, with centre Andrew Henderson and hooker Gordon Bulloch also getting on the scoresheet in a match the Scottish side were never in danger of losing. Fly-half Dan Parks slotted a valuable 18 points with
the boot.
For the visitors, lock Thierry Gras scored a try and fly-half Jeremy Valls kicked eight points in a losing effort.
Meanwhile, Rotherham's horror season continued as they crashed 13-35 at Narbonne, putting them in the Shield competition for the rest of the European
season.
The English club were seven points behind after the first leg, but were never in it as their French rivals scored four tries to one.
Second-rowers Olivier Olibeau and Peter Short were the unlikely heroes, each scoring two tries as Narbonne earned a 16-6 lead at halftime before romping away to a 22-point victory.
Fly-half Cedric Rosalen added 15 points with the boot to counter Welshman Jason Strange's eight points and a try to winger Michael Wood in front of 1,500 fans.
