English champions London Wasps host 2003 Heineken Cup finalists Perpignan at the Causeway Stadium on Sunday afternoon with Director of Rugby Warren Gatland openly declaring their target of ruling Europe.
Wasps - who won the PARKER PEN CHALLENGE CUP title in scintillating style in May - also stormed to victory in the Zurich Premiership final when they beat Gloucester 39-3.
"The goal for last season was to get back into the Heineken Cup," said Gatland. "Now that we have done that, it's time to get down to business and focus on doing well in this competition.
"The Heineken Cup is the pinnacle of European club rugby. It's a pinnacle Wasps will be setting out to achieve, starting this Sunday.
"Wasps have never won the Heineken Cup. Our squad of players have won trophies from the World Cup, Six Nations, Tri-Nations, Super 12, Zurich Premiership, Parker Pen Challenge Cup and many others. However, none of them have won the Heineken Cup. It's something they would love to do.
"But we know that Perpignan are a powerful side. They got to last season's final only to fall at the final hurdle and I have no doubt they are looking to go one better. We are preparing for a tough physical battle.
"And this game is more that London Wasps v Perpignan. It's become an England v France game. The French supporters won't settle for anything less than a French victory of English soil.
"I will announce the team later in the week, but we are looking to put out the strongest possible side including Lawrence Dallaglio and Josh Lewsey."
